TERRORVISION at Slay, Glasgow September 29th 2024

After being a fan of TERRORVISION for 30 years and for various reasons never having had the pleasure of seeing them live I finally got to see them live in Glasgow at Slay on September 29^th 2024 with 2 of my best friends. This happened to be my 5^th anniversary of being a journalist with Metal Temple, so this was a fantastic way to celebrate! After interviewing bass guitarist Leigh Marklew back in 2020 I was fortunate enough to become Facebook friends with both Leigh Marklew & also guitarist Mark Yates. TERRORVISION have just released their 7^th album “We Are Not Robots.” This was accompanied by a UK tour. There were shows in London, Norwich, Manchester, Leeds, Bristol, Wolverhampton, Stockton, Aberdeen & lastly but by no means least (probably the best,) Glasgow. By September 4^th, over 2 weeks before the album release & tour dates, 3 of the upcoming gigs had sold out in Bristol, Stockton & Glasgow. All other shows of the We Are Not Robots tour were running very low on tickets, a great attendance all over the UK. Supporting TERRORVISION at Slay, Glasgow was a band I’d previously not heard called KEELEY. They were a great opening act who got the crowd raring to go. At 9pm TERRORVISION came on stage to a full house with everyone excitedly cheering as the band came on stage. Tone was feeling a bit under the weather as he had the flu, however no one would have known (myself included, I only knew as I had plans to meet up with guys after the gig for an album signing & mailed me before the show about it to say he might not make the signing (understandable after all those songs!).) Mark was amazing to watch play guitar after years of admiration from the other side of the tv screen, as was Leigh on his bass shredding it up while Chris gave the drums a great beating as if he’d been playing the set list forever. Tony’s vocals were absolutely fantastic, & the guys all looked like they were enjoying the night as much as the eager crowd. I personally feel the crowds will generate more enthusiasm for a band on stage when they see the band having fun too. The guys certainly looked like they were having fun! Tone spoke about the tour & the new album & reminisced about the days gone by when fans at a gig would hold their cigarette lighters in the air & wave them side to side saying these days everyone uses the light on their mobile phones, so naturally I pulled out my lighter in the front row & gave it a wave in the air as you do. The band gave the fans a great night of entertainment with a 22 song set list. There were several songs from We Are Not Robots including “The Night That Lemmy Died,” which is a beautifully written spectacularly performed tribute to the god of metal music, the late great Lemmy. There was also “Baby Blue,” “You Gotta Want To Be Happy,” “Lucifer” & “Electrocuted.” Also a good few from the classic album How To Make Friends & Influence People including my personal favourite “Alice What’s The Matter?” “Middleman” & “Oblivion.” The crowd went wild as they played each of the 22 songs. By the end of the nights performance we were all hoarse from singing along, I lost my voice completely from the Monday after the show until about 2 days ago but it was so worth it, shows me I had a great night. I really didn’t mind sounding like a rusty gate blowing in the wind. TERRORVISION ended the gig with “Oblivion” which was in my opinion the perfect ending to the perfect & long awaited gig. I did meet with Mark, Leigh & Chris after the performance to have “We Are Not Robots, “How To Make Friends & Influence People” & Tony Wright’s last (and best) solo album “The Anti Album” signed by the guys & even though Tone wasn’t feeling up to meeting as he was resting downstairs in the venue, which he so deserved. Mark took my albums down & asked Tony to sign them for me, which I really appreciate. I’d say the night was a massive success for both the band & the fans. The only time I felt disappointed was after it was all over & I returned to the hotel I was staying in with my friends. Definitely worth waiting 30 years for a live gig but I wont be missing any more Glasgow dates in the future!
