Chapter IV

It's pretty much a "duh" statement to say that Germany is the Power Metal capital of the world. With major bands such as ACCEPT, GAMMA RAY, HELLOWEEN, EDGUY, AVANTASIA, PRIMAL FEAR, and of course my personal favourite BLIND GUARDIAN; Germany has no shortage of Power Metal kick-assery around. However, just in case those bands weren't enough for you; there's also WOLFEN.
This band hails from Cologne and may be the hardest hitting German Power band to date. One thing becomes very evident right from the beginning of "Chapter IV"; This band packs a bigger punch than their above mentioned contemporaries. With roaring riffs, wailing vocals (complimented by the occasional growl), and pulse-pounding drums. This record delivers massive waves of heavy hitting Power Metal carnage on your senses for over an hour without losing much steam. That's fucking impressive.
Almost every song on this record is catchy, heavy, and effective. It's rare that any band can get away with cutting a record this length without boring listeners at some point, but WOLFEN did it. Everything is solid on this album Production wise with the only thing lacking being the bass. I think this album could've used a bit more low-end, but hey; how often do you get great bass in Power Metal (Aside from ICED EARTH) anyway?
My favourite tracks on this sucker are "Hole In The Sky", "I am I", "Birmingham 6", and "Demons". The album is a roller coaster of a disc and will most likely get quite a few plays before you get tired of it. It's out now, so grab a copy and dig the shit!
