This Harmonic Consonance

Why aren't there more bands like LANFEAR? I mean yeah, there's a ton of Power Metal out there, but bands who really present their own unique style right away? Those are pretty view and far between these days. LANFEAR is a German Power Metal band that proclaim themselves as a band who doesn't need any gimmicks or theatrics, just, as they say, "100% Underrated Metal Exclusively". I would have to agree that this description suits them, and their brand new album "This Harmonic Consonance" is a brilliant example of what this talented band is all about.
Right off the go-get, the riffs are solid; especially for Power Metal, and the whole band brings a solid, and fluidic rush of Power Metal epicenes the rest of the way. There's quite a bit of variety to keep things interesting, and that really helps make this 49 minute ride feel smooth. Normally an album this length can feel long and drawn out, but that isn't the case here. The mix and sound is just as it should be, everything sounds solid. I suppose a little more bass would be nice, but that's really trying to find one little detail to bitch about. Sometimes I feel like I have to.
I suppose the only major flaw is the lack of originality. By this I mean, LANFEAR may sound solid and have their own unique identity, but they aren't really doing anything different from the rest. I never really got overly excited about what I was hearing, although I did thoroughly enjoy it. My favourite tracks on this album are "The Reverend", "Spectrophobia", and "Word Not Spoken", the rest of it is solid as well though. The only track that felt weak was "Idiopathic Discreation", which felt unnecessarily long to me. It's a small complaint though.
I enjoyed "This Harmonic Consonance", and look forward to hearing more from LANFEAR in the future. So if you like solid Power Metal; check this one out!
