Nitrogods - Self-Titled album cover

NITROGODS are a German band, and great advocators of good old Rock N' Roll. Now, the band itself may not be that well known yet, but considering two of their members have also been with PRIMAL FEAR, they're no newbies to the scene.

It would be remiss of me not to mention the similarities to MOTORHEAD - the gravelly lead vocals of the bass player, and the awesome, quick riffs. But NITROGODS certainly aren't a tribute band. Described by their own promotional material as "picking up a band's spirit and taking it further, adding their own signature", the band celebrates everything great about Rock N' Roll. Indeed, the theme of this self titled release is playing the music as it's always been intended - loud, dirty and unrestrained. This album could have been released at any time during Rock's heyday of the 70s and 80s and it would have fit right in. NITROGODS have got an awesome feel to them, really returning to Rock's roots to show more than a few bands that are around today what the music is really all about.

I mentioned the PRIMAL FEAR connections before, but it's really worth saying that all three members of this band are talented musicians. Larcher's vocals and bass playing is fantastic, really bringing a Lemmy-esque vibe to proceedings whilst still retaining their own unique sound. Wolter's fretwork is just awesome, heavy and downright dirty and Sperling's drumming is frantic and top notch. Also worth a mention is the two guest musicians present on the album. Dan McCafferty of NAZARETH lends his impressive pipes to "Whiskey Wonderland", and 'Fast' Eddie Clarke of MOTORHEAD fame provides the wahwah solo on "Wasted In Berlin". I'd struggle to pick a favourite track, as every song on here is excellent.

So if you love Rock N' Roll, and you're tired of the oversaturation of cheap imitators available to you today, then NITROGODS are without a doubt the band for you. Bringing back an awesome old school vibe, this band is going to gain a lot of fans.
