Self-Titled
Lomera
There is something in here but it certainly not enough. That is my short assessment of the debut four tracks EP release of the newcomer Aussie band of LOMERA that has been playing a raw kind of Sludge Metal. Mainly influenced by the likes of 70s BLACK SABBATH, LOMERA added attributes of the modern scene this making it similar to wicked versions of DOWN and SUPERJOINT RITUAL smothered with gravy.
It wasn't that easy for me to connect to their material at first listen, yet not that a second or a third really helped much. The first half of the EP, "Hail The Storm" and "Architect Vs Instrument", was less than satisfying and even a bit boring. LOMERA attempted to write additional layers to the fuzzy natured murky music but that didn't come as their helping hand. The vocals sounded a little monotonic while the riffages sounded stale and pale.
The second half of the release, at least for me, should be the band's future. "No Way But The River" earned the winning chip with its great melodies and vintage solos and the wonderful procedure of how the vocals synchronized so well. Furthermore, I enjoyed the Bluesy feel and the groove it awakened. "There Will Be Blood" wasn't in the same caliber as the former, yet it can be crowned as nice one, especially with those smudgy grooves led by a neat lead guitar overhead.
LOMERA has a large piece of the road still opened to them. This release didn't impress me but it had something interesting that I hope that they guys will take advantage of.
