AcidBait EP

AcidBait

The “AcidBait” songs themselves will stand up to any criticism you throw at them. No, they're not perfect, but they all have a good structure, a solid foundation and enough points that will keep you interested. This never bores.

This is from the info that came with the muisical file: ACIDBAIT is a two-man, father and son, metal band from Karlsruhe (Germany). In 2022, Phil (drums) and Denis (guitar, vocals and bass) started writing their first songs together. Today in 2024, Phil is 13 years old and the band is beginning their journey. In January 2024, 5 songs were recorded for the first EP. The band's influences lie somewhere between Heavy Metal, Thrash Metal and Groove Metal. Because the songs cannot be performed as a duo at concerts, ACIDBAIT are supported on stage by Rob W. (guitar) and Matthias P. (bass).

“AcidBait” starts off with a bang. What imeediately gets my attention is that Phil might be young, he already in a very established and talented drummer. What also becomes apparent is that for this kind of Groovy Heavy Metal with Thrash influences dad Denis has just the right kind of voice. It is rough, rasping and gravelly all in one. That does make the listening experience a lot easier. And as this is their very first EP, the expectations aren't too high to start with. But ACIDBAIT make short work of that, as trhe quality of the five songs definitely is very pleasing indeed.

No, they haven't invented a new wheel or anything like that, but ACIDBAIT does have a way to make sure that what they play might have some similarities with other bands, but that they also have a way of sounding like themselves. A very unique trait these days and one for which I applaud the band. And before you ask, do they sound like a typical Teutonic band? The answer is a resounding NO. With this sound they could have hailed from anywhere in the world. That is another feather in their cap.

The “AcidBait” songs themselves will stand up to any criticism you throw at them. No, they're not perfect, but they all have a good structure, a solid foundation and enough points that will keep you interested. This never bores. Let me warn you, though. This EP has only been released on Cassette Tape so far, which means that you need a cassette deck to play it for yourself. Unless you require it through their Bandcamp site, that is. I couldn't locate it anywhere else on the net! I will be very much looking forward to see what ACIDBAIT will evolve into in the future. For now “AcidBait” will keep me entertained time and time again.
