Self-Titled
Kraamola
There have been times when I asked myself how come I am reviewing releases that I don't have the faintest idea of what those mean. What I am telling you is that I actually didn't understand the foreign languages, just those that weren't in English. Nonetheless, why dismiss bands that prefer to produce songs in their mother tongue? There are always the music and special atmosphere that each artist creates. My point of view led me to another non-English speaking band, under the name of KRAAMOLA, which introduced itself to me, that decided to raise their swords, shields and pipes in the Ukrainian language.
Essentially, the band's short five tracked self-titled EP is a small energetic dose of European Power Metal with Folk elements. It was as if I was listening to a Folk version of FREEDOM CALL or GAMMA RAY. Without too much taking under consideration the fact that I didn't understand a word of what the vocalist is singing, I paid more attention to the music. I was glad that in general KRAAMOLA were able to build a vivid kind of tales so anyone who isn't a Russian speaker would be able to comprehend on what is going on.
Yet, as the music kept on hammering from different directions diverting between levels of tempo, I had the feeling that sometimes the songs, especially "Holo Zemli", lost their path while spreading to different areas that weren't exactly connected to the original form of the song. Same happened on the instrumental, "Chaklunka". When it came to "Osyinna Nich", it was a different story entirely. That magical moment, both long and short version that the latter wasn't really needed in the first place, left a mark of how a well done dramatic Metal ballad should be written. I think that this track should serve as a totem of success for this crew of five.
