Of Everlasting Cravings
Sun Descends Alone
SUN DESCENDS ALONE, the captivating brainchild of Trebol Dot, renowned for his role in the melodic death metal sensation DAWN OF TEARS, emerges as a unique entity in the realm of music. With an enchanting shift in focus towards gothic atmospheres, SUN DESCENDS ALONE explores new sonic territories that beckon listeners into a world of evocative emotions. The album has eleven songs. “Shelter” is first. The opening tones are sad, solemn, and melodic, and the vocals are done with harmonies at times. The are also some light symphonic elements sprinkled in to support the sound. “The Safest Place” has a bit of a faster pace, but still drips with lamentations. I get the melodic sensibility of HIIM is this song, and it has a catchy sound. “Once” has a more energetic sound, but again, the solemn sounds are still high in the mix. They deliver a big chorus here as well. “Cross My Heart and Hope to Die” is another gentle offering that exudes a feeling of greyness, or even regret, and the vocal harmonies are strong.
“Love You to the Grave” is another song that reminds me of HIM. It’s a combination of his baritone voice and the smooth, easy, but sad feeling in the music. “Take on Me” is indeed a cover of one of the most popular songs in music history, and his “take” is unique. Rather then the heavy electronic beat, he uses soft clean guitars and piano as his medium, and it’s quite charming. “Sunflowers” is another pretty song, and it’s obvious that J.L. has a way with melody. Thick bass notes and keyboards combine with a lively riff and some more vocal harmonies in a sweet but sad sound. “The Vast of Life” is as sad and majestic as it sounds. “Come Undone” closes the album, and seems to combine many of the strong elements of the album into a cohesive whole. It’s tender, and pulls on your heart strings. This was indeed a charming album. Trébol has a melodic sensibility to his compositions that make the music catchy, and memorable, and the listener long for better days.
