Holler
Brooklyn born singer Terence Holler who for three decades was the frontman of the progressive metal band Eldritch before he decided to go solo in 2022. Growing up listening to the likes of Billy Joel, Journey, Boston, Toto, Kiss ,Foreigner and Bon Jovi. These are the main Influences Terence Holler brought into this new project and direction simply called Holler.
The theme of this album according to Holler is when a man loves a woman, a woman loves a man too but they can't be together, a story we have heard a lot of times before, but have we heard this story the Holler way? Holler sings about his greatest love of all music or that special lady? Through the songs on this album these stories are told with a roller coaster of emotions ,feelings, despair and heartbreak. The opener “Do You Believe” is a fantastic start to the album ,It builds up to a great ear worm chorus that is catchy in every way the vocals, synth riffs everything about is it is fantastic reminds me of early 2000's Bon Jovi. ”I Don't Want” the keyboard chords and riffs make this track pure 80's AOR where again there's that influence Holler listened to growing up a superb AOR track. ”Music Is The One” cranks it up a bit a rockier edge which works really well great guitar licks with some superb guitar work by Denis Chimenti ,”Into Me Forever” more melodic a good track but does not captivate me as much as the first three tracks maybe a potential grower after a few listens. ”Look At Me Now” an AOR ballad is average, a lot better ballads out there. ”Falling Apart” is a great funkier track, love the bass groove, with a few saxophone licks thrown in for good measure great 80's throw back Toto influenced for sure. ”Wrong Words” another great AOR track. With “Don't Walk Away” another ballad is better than the previous ballad more emotion in the vocals a much better track in general. ”Invisible Man” and “How Long” give us two more great cuts of AOR all the influences again clearly evident yet again, delivered with great conviction. ”Without You” strays away a bit from AOR with a more pop/rock feel to it ,more soulful a lot of keyboards high in the mix a great song. ”Within Me” another great AOR track of high quality. ”Yulia” a piano driven ballad to end this album which is more emotional from Holler. I suspect its a very personal song to him an album highlight for me ,also out of the three ballads this is the best by a mile.
Terence Holler on the whole has made a great album. It captures everything that he set out to do musically and it has great production too. There are some great songs on this album plus some that will grow on me. Holler has made a great transition to AOR he has the perfect voice for this genre, This album is definitely worth listening to or purchasing one of my favourite albums of the year so far.
