Du dømmes til Død
Khold
“Du dømmes til Død” is a concept album about henchmen and various people being condemned to the death penalty throughout Norwegian history. Musically, you know what´s being offered: down-tuned and mid-paced metal with no compromises whatsoever. Groovy, melodic and loads of heavy riffs – this band sounds like nothing else, and that´s exactly the way it should be. And it´s how it will remain. True. Raw. Primitive. KHOLD. The album has nine songs.
“Myrdynk” is first. The opening guitar riff crawls, and reaches deep into the earth, and the harsh vocals are filthy. The riff chugs a bit with some cadence, but is pretty straightforward when it comes to riffs. “Vanviddfaren” moves a little faster and with some dissonance. However, the sound isn’t very adventurous. “Heks (du dømmes til død)” moves even faster, and even has some harmonized leads. But pretty soon, it falls back and rests on a fairly elementary riff. I like the bass work, however. The notes help to thicken up the sound. “Skoggangsmann” is another linear rocker, and this album needs a swift kick in the ass to make it come alive, because it sounds grounded to me.
“Misgrep” is really the first song that begins with some variation. Clean guitars, and somber tones mar the opening, but it falls again pretty swiftly into a similar sound. “Trolldomsdømt” does have some marked, harrowing sounds, but again, with a riff almost exactly the same as the previous song, the album is starting to blend together. “Lædel” is the shortest on the album at just over three-minutes. The simple riff however doesn’t do much for me as a reviewer. “Galgeberg og Retterbakke” does have some power behind the riff, but it won’t do much to save the album. “Dølgsmål” closes the album and it’s more of the same. Overall, besides some solid bass work, this album failed to excite me, and Black Metal can be very exciting.
