Invection - Facet Of Aberration album cover

INVECTION is a young American 4 piece band formed in 2007 and they play uncompromising in your face thrash. They've been one busy bunch the last 4 years with 2 EPs "World Plague" and "Demented Perception" a 2 song demo and of course the first album "Facet Of Aberration".

So what do we have here? 10 songs bursting with tons of energy speedy and rhythmical at the same time perfect for someone who want to bang the shit out of his head!
Influences come from classic Bay Area bands of the 80's like EXODUS and early METALLICA to the giants of euro thrash like KREATOR just to mention a few names but all these are fused into INVECTION's music along with their own personal style resulting in powerful, passionate and aggressive songs.

Andrew Kubiak's vocals are almost identical to Tom Arraya's (SLAYER) style back in the days of "Divine Intervention" and "Undisputed Attitude" and this is exactly the only objection I have with this album. While the vocals may sound SLAYERish enough they lack originality, character and at times I get the feel that they play a secondary part in INVECTION's music instead of complementary one. There are some attempts to add a bit more variety utilizing gang vocals as they do in "Drug Justice" but that's not enough to break the monotony. Thankfully that's the only thing that I find annoying with this album and holy shit what a fucking good album this one really is!! INVECTION's music is fast and heavy but at the same time has that vibe and feel albums like "Hell Awaits", "Reign In Blood" (SLAYER) and at times they bring to mind the golden days of NUCLEAR ASSAULT's "Handle With Care" and "Game Over". John Haag's drumming is absolutely stunning he has the speed, the groove and his playing can elevate even the weaker moments of the album into a headbanging thrash fest. The band knows that Haag's playing is a hidden ace under the sleeve and they really letting him shine in quite a few occasions with great breaks and fills.

Andrew Kubiak and Drew Gage's guitar playing is filled with great riffs but there aren't afraid in casting aside  their influences and get a bit more technical with their leads like for example in  "Two Faced Lie" and "Formication". Another great thing about here is that the listener doesn't have to face a constant hammering of fast riffs and tons of double bass for the sake of speed only. INVECTION know when to slow down and mix various mid  tempo parts in their songs adding more variety without losing character. Just check out the almost power metal riffing in "As The Locust Rise" while the guitar harmonies brought a  CHILDREN OF BODOM aura to mind or the vicious "Noetic Affliction" that's filled with speedy but also atmospheric parts with clever use of keyboards in the end. Production is very fitting keeping the balances between modern thrash of today and old school 80's sound. Drums sound natural moving away from the cursed digital triggered trend that dominated metal productions from mid 90's to 00's.

I had a great time listening to "Facet Of Aberration" and it left me with the best impressions, my only objection is with the vocal style and this what keeps me from giving the cd a higher mark. If you consider a fan of 80's SLAYER style and love to wreck your neck with bands like EXODUS, NUCLEAR ASSAULT, KREATOR, early METALLICA and miss the thrash days of MEGADETH give INVECTION a chance and you won't be disappointed.
