I wasn't what to expect with the BLOOD THRISTY DEMONS promo CD on the player. I mean, the band's moniker and the artwork had obviously Black Metal directions and taking also into account the one member's outfit on the back of the promo sleeve, all these should be granted. But sometimes there is a surprise waiting for you in the corner and that's always challenging.

The church organ intro reminded me KING DIAMOND's works and kind of took the Black Metal impression that I had. The blasting entrance of the following "Misathropy" and the accompanying scream rose my guards and thrilled my expectations for something old-school and definitely occult. The sound of this one-man band is almost traditional Heavy Metal with nice NWOBHM finishing touches wrapped in nice horroraesthetics like their countrymen DEATH SS introduced some decades ago. The guitars are very good and almost fill the gap created but the average vocals that sound like a Cronos wannabe that according my taste is a good thing. The rhythm section is heavy and total old-school with a heavy bass guitar but unfortunately with a lame drum sound generated by a cold drum-machine. I do not know why but, usually one-man bands often use drum-machine and consequently lose part of this honest and most of the times raw feeling.

The songs are guitar driven and if one searches deeper then he will discover some ANGEL WITCH nice references in the groovy "Dead Rising" andhe willstumbleuponan almost doom rhythm in "Cthulhu". Despite the uneven mix (the drums are way in the back), this track sounds totally black and evil mainly due to the occult vocals while the guitar leads are simply awesome. There is also a BLACK SABBATH essence that lurks behind the down tuned guitar, the slower tempos and the up-tempo breaks like in "Wicked Dream",whilethe blackness of MERCYFUL FATE in the rhythm guitars are the icing on the cake.

There are two bonus tracks here; one is the remixed version of the already good "Cthulhu" with the sole difference the additional keyboards, while the second is a cover of BLACK WIDOW's "Come To The Sabbat". The latter is close to the original but it fails to recreate the original's overwhelming 70s atmosphere.

All in all, this is a good album following the band's long standing presence in discography that counts more than 10 years. Mind you that this is not an easy going listening and requires some prior knowledge from the listeners, especially if there are no old-school albums in her/his collection.
