It was ten month ago, if I remember correctly when I reviewed LEMON BIRD's previous release, "Rara Avis", a fine album based on blues rock forms and being an album that drinks water in LED ZEPPELIN and THE WHO name. So now I have in my hands their second album, "Hangman And The Jury".

The quartet from Sweden continues from the previous album. And probably this is the problem with their second release. Even though I enjoyed the previous one, copying LED ZEPPELIN is not good enough for a second time and the songs didn't manage to keep the CD in my player. It is like listening to some guys that love the aforementioned band and try to sound exactly like them. But they can't. They may be skilled musicians and in particular Daniel may have a bit of the color of Plant's voice but not the feeling and the whole voice package. They also use some music scales and the LED ZEPPELIN guitar tuning, but they don't have the same spirit. They don't have their own sound. And they are giving us one of the same.

Those things are not good for any band. Who cares if you have studied your favorite band 100%? And, yes, in the debut album copying a bit your beloved artists is something that it might happen. But in the second one, you have to start developing your sound. "Hangman And The Jury" would be a great album for those into the old rock and blues, but never listened to LED ZEPPELIN and THE WHO. The rest would say: "Not bad,, but it lacks of personality. Those guys are just trying to copy the elder ones". And they are going to be right...
