COMA is a Rock/metal band from Poland. In their country they are a very well known and highly appreciated band with their last studio album becoming double platinum. They have also supported big names in the Metal and Rock scene such as LINKIN PARK and PEARL JAM. Recently COMA released their 4^th studio album entitled "Excess", which is also their first record with English lyrics in an attempt to become also known outside their home country. Having read many good comments about them I was expecting that this release was going to be something really good, but unfortunately it ended to be a very big disappointment.

I could characterize their music as Pop/Rock with many heavier Nu-Metal outbursts along with some alternative Metal elements. Let's start with the positives; the only thing that made a good impression was the guitar riffs and generally the rhythm section. There were enough interesting riffs and melodies creating a pretty much good basis for many of their songs. The disaster was the combination of the vocals with the music. The voice of the singer was not anything special but the biggest weakness was the compositions of the vocal parts that were in my opinion mediocre, uninspired and sometimes the combination of the vocals with the rhythm section sounded unconnected and with no sense of rhythm. As a result the songs where mediocre at best with the only exception being "T.B.T.R." and the bonus track "F.T.M.O.", which was the only song with no major weaknesses.

After I made my verdict for the album I searched the Web and to my surprise I found out that many reviewers gave "Excess" high grades (with a few exceptions). That means that either they cannot distinguish good from mediocre (or even shitty) music or I cannot understand and appreciate how good "Excess" is. Anyway, I am going to stick with my opinion and say that this album is really weak - not to say bad - and is not worth your attention. Who you are going to believe is your choice.
