We Are Volsung
Zodiac Mindwarp & The Love Reaction

"We Are Volsung"...yes we are, yes I know that the band sounds totally different to what I usually review but I couldn't miss the chance to remember my great past moments who were filled, among other bands, with Zodiac's THE LOVE REACTION, especially in high school where I was bombarded with all kinds of Power Metal from the boys side and NIRVANA-ish sound from the side of the girls, early Stoner, Sludge and certain Death Metal Bands that had a dirty sound was my personal escape. The same 'fuck you bitches' that I felt created ZODIAC MINDWARP & THE LOVE REACTION back in a day were the best hair was the coolest and glitter guitars thought they played music.
In 2010 they come back to kick the same ass they always did, "We Are Volsung" is arrogant, sleazy and heavy to the core, it's better than their previews albums since their comeback, definitely, with more passion and a twist for the Norse mythology the way only a band like ZODIAC MINDWARP & THE LOVE REACTION could give. This album is made to get drunk in a Viking way kind of drunkenness, with insane amounts of beer and naked women dancing around you.
Zodiac's voice retains its signature arrogance, every word that comes out of his mouth says "we have more fun and probably your sleazy girlfriend does also with all of us, while you sleep sound with your teddy", insane and savage lyrics during the epic songs such as "Stark Von Oben" and " We Are Volsung", insane are also the riffs that bombard each track with an amazing heaviness, dirty and angry each song get in to you like a cut from a bastard sword. It seemed to me like although an English band I felt there is a pinch of Southern sound in their guitar and drumming, which is not bad not bad at all, since it is that pinch that makes it even heavier than most of the band's records. Do not expect to hear something that resembles faster stoner Rock, this album is far from that. The energy of the band stops when the record ends and each song has no moment that slows you down, like tequila shots, and although there is no moment to rest, each song is well crafted in that you do not get tired the bit to listen to the whole album.
I would suggest the album to all those that miss the days of Alice Cooper, love to ride their bikes without giving any shit for anything or just those that need a strong jolt of Hard Rock, the old school kind of Hard Rock.
