A Collapse Of Faith

This is the third full length album for Lehto's project, OCTOBER FALLS. And since I saw the orbital logo I was sure that I was going to face their Metal-oriented side. Lehto gave birth to this project in 2001 and from 2003 and on they were always releasing something, either it was an EP or a full-length album.
There is no need to start writing about their history or what they did. To tel you the truth, I couldn't find many things since they don't have a MySpace space page - they are against this platform - and their official site has only a main page with links related to the band.
So, let's talk about music. "A Collapse Of Faith" is an album near 42 minutes in length with, as you can see, only three songs. This is something that we didn't come across in their previous full length albums they released. Even though, from what I saw, their influences are bands like KATATONIA and OPETH, they are following a more aggressive path, with only some moments of relaxation with acoustic guitars and nature sounds before the next storm. Here you will not listen to "progressive" melodic Death Metal like in OPETH's music (that's a big relief for my ears) but the whole riffing and music is focusing on its target without losing its course. On one hand this is good, but on the other it may sound boring to someone who needs that something extra in the music he is listening to. The production is solid and it doesn't make "A Collapse Of Faith" sound unbalanced between the heavy parts and the acoustic ones.
Overall this is an album that fans of monolithic (in a "I have to say something to you and don't want any progressive crap to ruin the route" way) ambient dark Metal, if I may say, will embrace. As for those that want that something extra, just give them a try and I think that you will not regret it. And since I'm somewhere in the middle..
