Zombiekrig - Undantagstillstånd album cover

ZOMBIEKRIG is a Swedish Thrash Metal band. Their vocals are in their native tongue and therefore I am not qualified to comment on the content therein. I can however, comment on the music itself. The vocals, not what they are saying but how they are saying, are very harsh, too harsh. It goes way past a couple of bands on their info sheet which posts their influences. There is nothing "early METALLICA", or "MEGADETH" about them as the info sheet proclaims. They do list a couple of other bands they are influenced by (or perhaps sound like) though; CARCASS and KREATOR, and I will give them that. The fact is that these vocals are too close to Black Metal for me to enjoy. I have always liked Thrash. I love some ARTILLERY and SODOM, but this is too much like Black Metal. Whether the subject matter reflects that is beyond me, since I don't speak Swedish.

There are a lot o pick scrapes all over the place on this album and that annoys me. I would think a decent producer would cut back on that so it doesn't sound like it was all done in one take by a uninterested individual. The music itself is very fast with a traditional thrash sound and not too many blast beats. What is confusing about the production is that it isn't even. All you have to do is listen to song number two, "Den Mörkaste Tiden Är Här". The song starts out muddy sounding then clears up, as if they couldn't make up their minds. On the rare occasions that the songs do slow down, the Black Metal voice seems terribly out of place. Why scream your head off when the beat is so slow? Not that it happens too often, but it's another gripe of mine. There is one slightly positive aspect of this album, and that is variety. They do switch it up some. Mainly between mid tempo and very up tempo, but the fact that's not all outright solid thrash drumming from the beginning to the end, shows me they are trying to add some complexity to their sound.

Overall, if you like extreme music, you might like this. Keep in mind if you don't speak Swedish, this won't make any sense to you, but some people love opera and can't understand a word that's being said; so this might not matter to you. Also, I didn't see any translations of the lyrics in any language, not even Swedish.
