"Slow slicing, (Ling Chi or Leng T'che), also translated as the slow process, the lingering death, or death by a thousand cuts, was a form of execution used in China from roughly AD 900 until its abolition in 1905. In this form of execution, the condemned person was killed by using a knife to methodically remove portions of the body over an extended period of time."
Taking a look at the promo CD, you will come across the definition of the word "hypomanic", which is actually a person suffering from a mild degree of mania, often preceding a full manic episode. This definition could easily describe this band's music. The definition of the band's name (read above) is also something someone could use to describe LENG TCH'E's sound, since they have already done that. Are you ready for some Razorgrind?
Even though the Belgian LENG TCH'E have managed to make their name known out there, I didn't have the chance to know them, not until their previous album "Marasmus" (2007), which kicked my ass with its relentless brutality! Three years later, the band returns with a brand new offering, a different label and most important of all, a different line up. Let's see...
New singer, one guitarist gone and a different drummer. The only remaining "Marasmus" member is bass player Nicolas Malfeyt! Even though I wasn't sure about what I was going to face at first, this brand new line up managed to put myself together and throw me a huge kick in the ass with a kind of Grind that knows no boundaries! Mixing their modern Grindcore sound with Death Metal, Hardcore and a lot of heavy as fuck sounds, LENG TCH'E show that they really know how to handle their music, experiment and stay brutal at the same time! In "Hypomanic" you will have to face many assaults though. From bone crushing blasts, to mid tempo heavy parts and almost Hardcore stuff that will make your head bang whether you want it or not! Thumbs up to Russ Russell (NAPALM DEATH, BRUJERIA, DIMMU BORGIR) for the excellent production that has added the extra spiciness to the band's already ass kicking music!
Since I guess that the biggest doubt fans will have is the new singer Serge Kasongo, let me assure you that this guy has an incredible vocal range that follows the band's sound exactly, brutal and heavy at the same time! I'd really like to see these maniacs on stage performing their new material. Total holocaust!
