Legendary California experimental rock band Yawning Man will release its new LP, 'Macedonian Lines', on June 14 via Heavy Psych Sounds (Brant Bjork, Crypt Trip). The group, which formed in 1986 and counts desert rock godfathers such as John Garcia, Josh Homme, and Brant Bjork (who would later form the legendary stoner rock band Kyuss) as disciples, continue to establish their exceptionally unique approach to rock music with the impending new record.

In advance of the new record's release, LA Weekly is streaming 'Macedonian Lines' in full, saying, "If any band deserves to have a 1,000 think pieces written about their influence on an entire music scene, it's Yawning Man. The desert generator parties spearheaded by the band in the mid '80s are the lore of legends, as their free-form psychedelic-rock jam sessions under the stars would give birth to the Southern California desert rock scene that spawned bands such as Kyuss and Queens of the Stone Age. If you have ever blazed up green stuff or ingested psychotropic materials and indulged in a spin of The Desert Sessions series of records, Yawning Man is where it all begins." Yawning Man gave music fans a first taste of 'Macedonian Lines' by debuting a new music video for the album's title track via Kerrang!, which states, "It's heavy, spacey, shimmery, and full of gorgeous, sprawling, time-lapse images of the desert landscape and night sky - perfect for sountracking the pondering of your existence, pairing with your next psychedelic trip, or at the very least, making your heart long for wide open spaces."

"Gary Arce and myself have expressing ourselves through our music together for over 30 years; every performance and every recording reveals something new," says bassist Mario Lalli. "This experience has been, and continues to be, absolutely cathartic for us. The music represented in our latest recording, 'Macedonian Lines', represents moments distilled from improvisation on our last European tour. Darkness, heavy beauty...we are learning to play music intuitively...melodies that invoke a emotional reaction for us as we play. No formula, no rules."

The follow-up to Yawning Man's celebrated 2018 LP, 'Revolt Against Tired Noises', 'Macedonian Lines' shows a further maturing of melody, dynamics and emotion within the band's songwriting. Recorded at Gatos Trail Studio (Big Business, Unsane) in the Joshua Tree area of California's high desert (natch), the space and beauty of the recording studio's surroundings is ever present in every track. Yawning Man's roots lay at the foundation of the desert rock and stoner rock sub genres, however, the music the band creates is truly organic and visceral, conjuring both flowing imagery and emotional response.

2.) Macedonian Lines (Kerrang! video premiere)

"Yawning Man was the sickest desert band of all time. You'd just be up there in the desert, everybody'd just be hanging, partying. And they'd show up in their van and just, mellow, drag out their shit and set up right about the time the sun was goin' down...Oh, they're the GREATEST band I've ever seen." - Brant Bjork (Kyuss, Fu Manchu)

"Formed in La Quinta, California ("the Gem of the Desert"), in 1986, Yawning Man are largely considered the fathers of the desert-rock movement. The band's now legendary "generator parties"-all-night drug-fueled jams held in the middle of nowhere and named for the equipment they'd use to power the shows-are still spoken about as life-changing moments by members of groups that emerged out of the same scene, including Kyuss and Queens of the Stone Age." - Chicago Reader
