Death Begins
My Darkest Side

My opinion about Metalcore and the Italian Metal scene has probably become more than obvious after so many relative reviews. The fact is that this 4 track promo arrived out of nowhere at the METAL TEMPLE HQ and I must admit that these guys have some potential to do something serious.
MY DARKEST SIDE is a pretty fresh band since it is "alive" for only two years and this is its very first release. The very first thing that amazed m was the sound quality that can really compete with many huge releases out there. I know it sounds kind of weird, but this promo CD meets the sound standards of a quality full-length album, surely a "plus" for them. Let's get to the music now...
Even though they claim to play Deathcore influenced by THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER and LAMB OF GOD, the Italians are closer to the Metalcore side and bands like DEVILDRIVER, UNEARTH and CALIBAN. The songs are well worked, something that has led to solid structures and pretty good riffs, that are completed by a tight rhythm section and a bestial vocalist. MY DARKEST SIDE actually prove that there can be good and bad Metalcore music. It may be a trend that has gone wild, but there will always be releases that will shine bright amongst the pile of crap that has flooded the market (and the internet unfortunately). The band's ability to combine catchy melodies and brutal music is surely something that will please many fans of modern extreme music.
"Death Begins" is a professional release showing that these guys are not here just for fun. MY DARKEST SIDE seem to have a huge appetite for work and... Metal! What I am now waiting for is to see if they can do as good in a full-length release, which will be much more of a challenge than a 4 track promo. Thumbs up guys!
