After the shock I had a couple of months ago when I saw the movie "Halloween II" (due to the spooky and bloody veil of mystery that Mr. Zombie had added), "Hellbilly Deluxe 2" was the absolute icing on the cake; I was already aware of his music direction in "Hellbilly Deluxe"-part I till his nowadays involution in CAPTAIN CLEGG AND THE NIGHT CREATURES psychobilly horror project and his obsession with the cult, bloody, undead stuff too; I also knew what to expect from his new discographic effort. The Rob Zombie music phenomenon can not be worked out without the statures of the film direction, screenwriting and film producing; these things are stuck together and underline the multi-personality (or expertise, if you prefer) of Mr. Zombie.

Cherish WHITE ZOMBIE's past and put it back in the closet; here we have to do with terror, hooky melodies, blonde women (from Mars especially), distortion, torture machines, psyched keyboards and an entire package taken from a Bela Lugosi's scene of "White Zombie" movie for example- why not? The nightmares, the white horses and all your childish fears are wide shut in this album and if you are not prepared, don't make the mistake and 'open' it. The structure has been closely chosen like the plot of a film: narration, plot, climax. The beginning of "Jesus Frankenstein" is almost hypnotic: immense out-of-space keyboards, wind blowing sounds and the horror riff that prepares the listener for the coming rain. Zombie states that is Jesus Frankenstein himself and the catchy riff of the song makes it an all-time classic best album opener.

The continuity is quite similar: a pink bubblegum stuck in your rotten tooth, copious women with heart-shaped asses, virgin guilty witches, attractive werewolves and this terror circus seems to be stood for keeps and with the perspective for certain success. Throughout the 50 minutes of the album, you can watch in front of your eyes all the pictures from horror movies and those you can imagine, so long as you have already watch a Rob Zombie film- the gamut is large enough to pick yours, more closely to your taste. If you don't state a fan of this psych horror situation, you'd better stay at "La Sexorcisto: Devil Music, Vol. 1" and remain at those purple bubbles you continue to see above your head, 18 years later- maybe it's the acid, you rogue!

When music involves with the seventh art, when cinema serves the twisted mind of a genius man: here I could describe the picture I have in mind whenever I am thinking of a 'Rob Zombie' venture. "Hellbilly Deluxe 2" is for me the upcoming return of its part 1, the visualization of the ultimate pictorial attempt of Zombie and finally, the talent of a madman (how Ozzy-esque was that?) to create a tale accompanied catchy melodies and creepy tones. I dedicate to him the first opening lines of "Halloween II":

"White Horse: linked to instinct, purity and the drive of the physical body to release powerful and emotional forces, like rage with ensuing chaos and destruction. -excerpt from The Subconscious Psychosis Of Dreams".

Rob, thanks for keeping my dreams scary and alive!
