Dark-pop artist and renowned drummer Lena Zawaideh ' now known under her stage name NightPulse ' is thrilled to unveil her new music video for "The Rush" exclusively on Nasty Gal / Nasty Galaxy. "The Rush" had a primarily female crew on set and was directed by Lindsey Byrnes (Troye Sivan, Tegan and Sara, Laura Jane Grace, PVRIS, Paramore, and more). Nasty Gal dubbed Zawaideh as a 'dark-electro-phenom' who has risen from the disbandment of her previous band Bad Things into a singer, songwriter, and self-taught producer - all while embracing her sexuality and identity through her music. The single was originally released at the top of the year, receiving praise for the 'electro pop-gem' by BlackBook.

When asked about the video, Zawaideh said: "I enlisted the help of Lindsey Byrnes again to bring the track to life. In addition to myself, the video features a mannequin which represents an extension of oneself - emotionally empty and detached from reality. It can be a numb, dead part of yourself that strives to feel a 'rush' again." Though the track has an upbeat Friday night out vibe, Lena expressed that the song is about "chasing elusive highs." She added: "They say the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. 'The Rush' takes us through the journey to insanity - from the highs to the lows and back again."
NightPulse made her debut in October 2017 with her video for "Delirious" which premiered over on NYLON. Lena went on to discuss why it was important for her to link up with Lindsey Byrnes for the video, stating: "I chose Lindsey Byrnes to direct the video not only for her fiercely feminist spirit, but because I immediately felt comfortable opening up to her about my story." She also released a very personal single entitled "Hold Tight" in November which was written to remind her fans (and herself) to "not lose hope in the midst of uncertainty." Growing up in San Diego, Lena traded piano for drums at the age of ten and devoted her middle school and high school years to playing in numerous bands. Just before she enrolled at UCLA in 2009, Lena joined Bad Things, eventually becoming both a songwriting force and co-vocalist for the group. The critically acclaimed quintet released its self-titled major label debut in 2014, performed on the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, delivered a fiery headline set at Lollapalooza, and joined Phantogram and 30 Seconds To Mars on high-profile tours.
As Bad Things disbanded during 2015, she found herself at a crossroads. When asked about going solo, Lena said: "I began as a drummer, and gradually expanded my skill set to include songwriting, singing, and production. While drumming is my lifeblood, there's only so much you can express through rhythm alone. While I was in Bad Things, I started learning music production software like Ableton and Logic. After the band broke up, I continued writing and producing non-stop. I fell hopelessly in love with the entire creation process ' from writing and producing music to working with creative teammates to make music videos come to life. It's artistically liberating and exhilarating to see how far you can stretch yourself as a one-woman band." Lena cultivated the vision for NightPulse with some inspiration from the likes of Banks, Grimes, and Pvris. She personally produced, penned, and performed every note. Stitching together dark electronic soundscapes and pop palatability, the songs unlock another side of Lena-an alter ego unafraid to confront depression, sexuality, and other stigmatized subjects.
