Political Experiments
Whatever Insane

I just realized that from time to time I go through some musical periods. I mean, there was a time when almost all the albums I had to review were Black Metal; there was another time when most of the albums I had to review were Thrash Metal. Now it is the time that many releases I have to review are demo releases. You got it right. Political Experiments is a demo release, which means one more interesting work from the underground.
WHATEVER INSANE is a Greek Metal band. Even though I spend some time digging into the Greek underground Metal scene, I didn't even know such a band existed. After reading the bio note that this demo contained I saw that this band was formed in mid 2002 by Phil and Endall. The band went through some line up changes, but when it managed to create a steady line up, it played some live shows supporting well-known Greek bands like KINETIC, INVERACITY and HOMO IRATUS. The band had release one more demo in the past, but the members were not satisfied with the result, so they didn't promote it. They now release their first official work.
WHATEVER INSANE's music can not be put under any tag. The only term to characterize their music is modern Metal. The band combines elements from bands like DEFTONES, KORN and many more creating an at least decent result. If someone has listened to stuff from Greek bands like ROT, DIRT SPAWN DISEASE and POEM, he must know that this band seems to be influenced by them. The production is not that good, but fortunately, it is not shitty, too. The songs have to do with stuff related to the current social and political situation and I must admit that the lyrics are pretty good. The vocals are being shared by the two singers. Endall handles the brutal vocals and Black George the clean and melodic ones. Even though the overall result can be described as a bit interesting, I cannot say that the band impressed me. If I had never listened to ROT and DIRT SPAWN DISEASE, I would say that this band has great abilities for something more. The fact is that there are times I believe that WHATEVER INSANE are just trying to present a work pretty similar to the above-mentioned bands.
If you like the sound of the bands mentioned in this review and you are looking for something that goes beyond the Heavy/Power/Black/Death/Thrash Metal borders, you can visit the band's website to have a taste of this demo. If you are not into this modern Metal stuff, better go somewhere else.
