The Darkest Storm
Winterdemons

One more release from Behemoth Productions. The Black Metal industry seems to be pretty energetic those last years since I have reviewed many releases from this scene. 2007 just got in and I have already reviewed some good Black Metal stuff like WATAIN and ROTTING CHRIST. Let's see if WINTERDEMONS will be the same good as their mates, ROTTING CHRIST.
You got it right, WINTERDEMONS hail from Greece. They were formed in 2003 and the only stuff they released before The Darkest Storm was a demo in 2005. Obviously, this is their debut album, which is released through Behemoth Productions. And something else, Sargon is the latest addition to the band and as the two former members (Goulthor & Morgoth) say, they were searching for a bass player that could fit the band musically and spiritually, and it took two years if I am not mistaken to find him.
Hmmm, WINTERDEMONS. A Greek Black Metal band that obviously still hasn't found its orientation. While listening to The Darkest Storm, I had to face a sample of immature Black Metal. The band definitely needs a lot of work in order to present a much more decent work. The sound is incredibly shitty, and we are not talking about a cult underground production here, we are talking about an awful sound. The only thing that I could call underground is the sound produced by the drums. The drum kicks can't be heard at all, and the hi hat is incredibly irritating. The songs are a bit boring since this band was probably confused when they heard DARKTHRONE say that monotonous riffs are part of their ideology. They surely didn't mean something like this. WINTERDEMONS are trying to produce this freezing darkthronish Black Metal but it seems that their debut album is far away from being called a success! Even if the songs were a bit better, the band still lacks of the classic dark & evil atmosphere that a Black Metal band of this style should have.
After what I listened to, I can't say if these guys have the talent to produce something much better. I just want to be optimistic and hope for a much better second full-length album. Time will show my friends. It is just a pity since Greece has produced many great Black Metal bands.
