Inside Cold Patterns - DEMO

Damn!!! I must have had this Demo for more than six months but it was stuck between a dozen on CDs in the wrong place. Sorry guys but accidents do happen. Let's see what a band from Italy can play. Maybe happy Europower Metal? Maybe Epic / Viking / Doom? None of the above? Well, it just started to get interesting!
Winterpath formed in 2003 and since then they have already released three Demos, this one actually being the second one (again one can notice for how long this one was hanging on a shelf - damn x 2!!!). Their first Demo was titled The Wolf Philosophy (2003) while their latest release is called The Blackhearted (2005).
If you asked me to describe the music of the band with one word, I would say... Opeth! Yeah, I know this is a very heavy correlation but all the elements are here: a mixture of Death Metal with brutal vocals and atmospheric / melancholic parts with acoustic guitars and clean vocal lines, lengthy songs... do you get a pattern here? Yeah, it is quite obvious that Winterpath follow the path opened by Opeth and I dare say that they manage to handle things quite well. I mean, if this one sucked, I wouldn't have the mental strength to survive three extremely lengthy songs (seven, eight and ten minutes long). But they manage to keep a brilliant balance in their music.
Only thing is that the production could have been a lot better. All in all this one will definitely surprise the fans of Opeth... I can't wait to listen to their next work!
