Killing Ages
The Illusion Fades

Formed back in 1990 in Athens, ILLUSION FADES have made a good name in the goth scene. Their album In Black (2003) was voted as the album of the year by Greek magazines and three years later Psycho Burns kinda opened the doors to a wider public and made the band known outside their homeland's limits. Now they are back with the sixth album Killing Ages from the Pandaimonium label.
ILLUSION FADES in this release combine goth atmospheric elements with hard guitars and dark melodic vocals that follow mostly the FIELDS OF NEPHILIM direction. So let's roll it.
To be honest, the keyboard line in the first track, 13th Day, reminded me a lot of another Greek band, BLOODCULT. In Sweet Thing you get some distortion in the guitars, the track sounds somehow like TIAMAT, in their late attempts, while the contribution of Tristessa (ASTARTE) in the vocals adds on the outcome. Gothica slides to a metallic sound and partially adopts the CRADLE OF FILTH singing (I don't know, is that Tristessa again in the Dani Filth role?). Apart from Tristessa, another guest in this album is Jan Barkved (ELUSIVE) whose voice dresses Highway 666 with a dark veil. Red Door wraps itself with early MOONSPELL sounds and Awaiting The Dawn awakens the PARADISE LOST fairy in my mind.
The production is professionally attended, the vocals of George Dedes suit with the music like a hand in a velvet glove (only in Man Without A Soul the Greek accent was slightly detected). This album reveals the excellent musicianship between the members. It might be difficult in the goth scene - and not only- to do something unusual, however this band uses the ropes of different bands in a way that 'tightens' the listener from the first seconds. The ones that like the kind of goth music FIELDS OF NEPHILIM deliver and the ones that have in their favourites bands like ROTTING CHRIST (Sleep Of The Angels), PARADISE LOST, CULT, NOSFERATU, invest in this release with no doubt.
P.S: Hey guys, that's your sixth album, don't you think it is time to make an official website with a more extended bio available?
