There are many releases labels like Frontiers have put out during the last years that are not (on a significant level) related to a Hard Rock & Heavy Metal magazine so as to be featured. I guess we won't be tamed to 'upload' a Chris Rea or Sisters Of Mercy review in the near future, huh? Still, Toto's influence (apart from virtually every other musical genre) in the entirety of Melodic Rock/AOR music is beyond the space of this analysis and - since we received the promo copy of their long awaited new album - we'll sum it up into a few words for this (indeed) excellent effort!
Toto - breathing life for nearly 30 years now - deliver their latest album, after seven whole years since the Mindfields studio CD (2002's Through The Looking Glass being a 'covers' release). In a few words: from start to finish the general impression is that the band was in great mood writing, recording and producing this set of songs. Owning Toto's entire discography, even if not being a diehard, fan, I see Falling In Between as their most creative work since 1992's Kingdom Of Desire (Don't chain my heaaaaart...). Previous Toto members Joseph Williams and Steve Porcaro join the club for an album - again - summoning different styles and vibes. A smart combination of AOR, Melodic Rock, 'jazzy' Pop, classic Prog Rock is demonstrated into beautiful tracks such as Falling In Between, Bottom Of Your Soul, Let It Go and Spiritual Man, while (not something new, of course) the performance of all musicians is (all over again) in 'sky-scraping' level. Not to forget: the one and only Ian Anderson (Jethro Tull) gives 'flute' help in Bottom Of Your Soul.
Some tunes off this album have the potential to become Toto classics, a 'measure' of what Falling In Between stands for in - not only - the band's discography. Not 'fed up' with the comments above?
