Harmonic Tremors
Zozobra

This is the first time I get a promo from Hydra Head Records, home of the high and mighty ISIS, JESU and many more. The band I am called to review is ZOZOBRA. Strange name, isn't it? Anyway, it seems I found out some pretty interesting facts about this band and the members that it is consisted of. All of you that are always on the look for some strange stuff will surely find this review interesting.
I didn't manage to find any exact info about this band. I only managed to understand that the whole ZOZOBRA idea was conceived by Caleb Scofield some time in 2006, when he wrote and recorded the songs, and then re-recorded them with his fellow drummer Santos Montano. From what I could make out, Harmonic Tremors is the band's first release, since no demo releases were mentioned anywhere.
For all of you who don't know the musicians that form ZOZOBRA, they have played in bands like the cult Sludge/Ambient metallers OLD MAN GLOOM and CAVE IN. ZOZOBRA's sound is close to the bands I just mentioned, offering us a Sludge/Post Rock assault with heavy, low tuned guitars and harsh vocals that will also remind you of bands like the old ISIS, as well as KNUT and INTRONAUT. The songs have no standard tempo (as you can easily understand) and the production gives a much dirtier touch to the album's sound.
If you are a Post Rock/Hardcore fan and you have missed GODFLESH's pounding music, ZOZOBRA will become a more than good substitute to your hunger. I think that there is nothing more to be said. Whoever was meant to get the point, has already got it. The rest of you, better search for something less complex.
