When We Were Wolves - Heartless album cover

The new CD by "When We Were Wolves", entitled "Heartless", is definitely intriguing.  Upon listening, my first impression was, "Wow, this is intense."  The first song, entitled "Dying on the Inside", begins with extremely harsh vocals, which were pretty much next to impossible for me to understand.  However, I think if they performed at a hard-core metal show, a pit would erupt without patrons caring about the words.  There is a section of the chorus that transcends into normal singing, which I liked.  The vocalist has a very good singing voice that I preferred to the screaming.

"Blind" is the third song on this album and it's a heavy-hitter.  The song is purely instrumental and a pre-recording of background noise until the one-minute mark, then the lead vocalist erupts with intense vocals.  This is definitely a song that will create and hold a pit at live shows.  It's pure, brutal metal...very heavy; fast beat with no chance of slowing down.

Another song on this album that will keep the crowd on their feet is "Confession."  I liked the fact that the song was broken up with regular singing, then back to the rough and edgy sound.  However, where the normal singing lacked I had a hard time trying to figure out what they were saying.

The final song from "When We Were Wolves" is called "Heartless." This is the longest song on the CD at just under six minutes long. The light intro leads to a heavy beginning, which helps to build up the energy.  This is another tune that mixes up the vocals with some singing and some screaming.

I think "Heartless" was definitely produced well and will create a buzz amongst new and old fans.  I personally am not a fan of vocals so harsh that they are difficult to understand, but others might absolutely love this style.
