Worlds Torn Asunder
Warbringer
Another sign of an upcoming doomsday? Yep, bet your ass it is. However, this disaster we are about to endure will registered to us as we are the destroyers. We seem to have a knack of destroying ourselves. If you haven't read the news yet, you would better start. The US Thrashers, WARBRINGER, won't be the first, and probably not the last Metal band that contemplates our existence and our ongoing demise. Nonetheless, each and every prophecy, as on their third new album, "World Torn Asunder", via Century Media, should be taken to account.
Alongside being a part of the large group of mayhemic prophets, WARBRINGER is one of the hardest Thrashing bands nowadays. Still working hard and touring as if they run on air, that is very cool to know. However, with all the hard work invested on this here album, I can't say that I found it to be that special although it had a different dimension that I rather liked. In general, WARBRINGER mostly continue to protect the old ways of Bay Area Thrash yet without forgetting that Europe is never too far as an influence.
Although this album didn't startle me in such a way that I would carve its name on every wall, I liked the constant dynamics that WARBRINGER preserved. When their old school merged with modern Thrash aspects met the blasphemous musical orientations of Black Metal, it was something neat. Through "Echoes From The Void" I could feel the chilling coldness of DIMMU BORGIR but on the other hand there was this intense heat that only the Thrash fires of hell, or the earth's blistering core, could provide. "Demonic Ecstasy" channeled evil possession of the soul. The hard to the core riffs were entangled with blackish markers that the Norwegian blacksters have been producing for years. Those amazing moments also aided WARBRINGER with a hollow ground to play their outstanding solos. You might think about a greatly produced modern edition to older SODOM and SEPULTURA songs.
When talking about old school Thrash music without too much additions or strings attached, WARBRINGER are more than qualified to supply. I was hammered by "Savagery" that was the ultimate brutal endeavor. It was groovy followed by a massive heavy passage. It is a real raw old school machine filled with a variety of riffs and a spectacular solo guitar. If you missed the warrior image of WARBRINGER, there you have it. Warrior Thrash mood with the best that WARBRINGER can offer. "Enemies Of The State"is back to the USSR. The old Soviets will never forget their history with this one. WARBRINGER brings back the foul memories and the horrors of the Iron Curtain with a tight Thrash fest by their book of morbidity. Heavy smashing riffs, great solos and vocals that won't let anybody run for cover. "Wake Up... Destroy" is where EXODUS meets SLAYER under a violent oriented grinder. The extreme vibe controls the air. The main passage is totally SLAYER like and it was played great. This is a sweet 80s Thrash revolution song with a word against the evil oppressors in our midst, cool solo
Fans of old school Thrash would rejoice out of this release as WARBRINGER didn't fail. However I would have to admit that heard them in better form and material than this album. The Thrash is great but I expected more.
