VIMUR is a Black Metal band which was formed in 2006. The band considers Atlanta, Georgia in the United States to be its home base. Currently VIMUR has five releases to its credit, including the album that I am reviewing today, "Triumphant Master of Fates," which was released in February of this year.

The album's opening track, "Seditious Apertures," is a standard Black Metal song. It features a fast pace with plenty of melodic overtones along with harsh yet compelling vocals and a driving beat. It's a good song and should please most Black Metal fans. The second track, "Consumed By The Source," has a lovely intro which is extremely moody with a nice melodic undertone. The song speeds up a bit, but it also features several areas where the pace changes abruptly, sometimes slowing almost to a stop. Same assessment as the first track; not bad, but not exactly spectacular, either.

I thought the album was good overall. However, two tracks really stood out and impressed me a great deal. "Adversarial Impetus Ignition," the third song, has a different sound to it, brighter somehow yet with plenty of darkness, too. It has a much more classic European Black Metal attitude about it which appealed to me immensely since I am a fan of that genre. The vocals provided by Vaedis were incredible. I was happy to discover his range was far better than I'd suspected. Equally pleasing was the music itself since it featured plenty of excellent guitar riffs along with a great bass line and strong percussion that set the entire song off. I liked the song so much that I was sad when the fourth one started. The other track that captured my interest was "Our Dearest Hopes Lie Buried Here".  It begins sort of slow and sludgy, fooling the listener into thinking it's going to be a song that doesn't sound that interesting. Then it gets good; it's the heaviest track on the album without a doubt. It's dark, grim, brooding and melodic as well as beautiful. My only complaint is the band should've focused on creating more songs along this line. They can obviously sound just as good as any European Black Metal band when they put a bit more effort into what they're doing. My advice to them on the next album is to go for it; get really, really dark, it absolutely works for you!

If you're a fan of Black Metal then you'd be happy with what VIMUR has created. It's  nice to know that there is a band here in the States that has an understanding of how the genre is supposed to sound. Maybe the Stateside scene is in better shape than I'd hoped.
