Under Eden - An Aeons - Long Shadow album cover

The United States of America and Death Metal have a long way together. The style was born in Switzerland from HELLHAMMER's works, but MASTER, DEATH and POSSESSED contributions helped to shape the genre to what we have today. U.S.A. still is a great womb for new Death Metal bands, as the quartet UNDER EDEN comes to blast out our eardrums with "An Aeons - Long Shadows".

We can't say that they are in an Old School fashion, but they aren't as brutal or melodic as the new names of the genre. They mix the brutality of their music with a good technical insight (in traditional Death Metal terms, please), along with influences from English and Swedish Schools, some melodies in guitar solos, and they sound in a personal way. Their musical work is nothing new at all, but extremely personal, and filled with a great energy. The sound production made a fine work. To keep the sound harsh in these terms with a clear insight and a heavy sound quality and the use of good instrumental tunes is not an easy work, but they got a very good level quality on the sound. The artwork created by the Finnish artist Juha Vuorma is really great as well!

When "An Aeons - Long Shadow" starts to play, we hear that a good album is coming this way. This is their third release, so we can say that they are mature and did a very good work. Their best songs on the album are the nasty and oppressive "Aeon Alpha - Storming Primordial Shores" (with some very good guitar riffs and great rhythmic changes), the excellent aggressiveness on the rhythmic session shown on "Inhuman Evolution" (from fast and brutal tempos to slower ones in a great way), the catchy guitar riffs and solo presented on "Eclipsing Even Darkness", the oppressive and bitter slow paced massacre called "Catalyst for Massacre" (with excellent vocals, let me tell you all), the technical insight used on "Unseen by the Sane (Darkness Ascends)", and the contrast between very good clean vocals and the harsh ones shown on "Aeon Omega - The Strand Unravels". As a bonus, a live version for "Veil of Twilight", from their first album, and it's filled with excellent melodies.

These guys can crack the world with their musical work so be aware of what UNDER EDEN is about!
