THE QUILL are back with their seventh opus, a new collection of songs at the crossroad of many styles as Post Grunge Metal / Classic Rock or Stoner Metal, another album to add to their already palmers albums, they are indeed experienced and it sounds like they mastered their subject perfectly, evaluate this 46 Minutes CD in a short review without the use of a comparative list of legendary bands isn't easy... But I will try my best.

The main core line up of The Swedish bunch that evolve under the patronymics of THE QUILL consists of guitarist Christian Carlsson and his old friend drummer George Jolle Atlagic (ex-HANOI ROCKS) whom formed the band together in the early 90s with the essential input help by one time SPIRITUAL BEGGARS bassist Roger Nilsson (FIREBIRD). I was a big fan of their early albums as "Voodoo Caravan" or the weirdly titled "Hooray! It's A Deathtrip", in fact I still regret the departure of their ex-lead singer Magnus Ekwall (also guesting with AYREON) who left right after "In Triumph" (2006), and who provided a more intense, complete and balanced kind of vocals mainly my first point of attraction and their strongest asset back then.

To fill the vacant vocalist spot in 2010 , they teamed up with a new singer: Magnus Arnar (ex-GROUND MOWER / SOUL 78), the following album "Full Circle", was in a too Revival / Vintage trip for me. But this time, what I think that we have here is a heterogenic mix of both old and recent albums, not caricature oriented anymore with less gimmick, yet still very much influenced by the 70s fat organic sound, but with again a more focused songwriting simple and efficient with an in-your-face attitude like "Greed Machine", "Darkest Moon" or "Go Crazy", those songs are the perfect renditions of that new found up lifting polyvalence, a clever equilibrium.

Unlike his predecessor, the music seems more fresh and positive with a few experimentations ("Getaway" ,"Purgatory Hill") but with still an enlightening constant goal, only "Sweet Rush" is a little muddy and maybe less interesting than the rest. This one is recommended for the fans of the contemporary similar bands like: THALAMUS / FREE FALL / FIREBIRD / MONSTER MAGNET / SPIRITUAL BEGGARS / SOUNDGARDEN / AUDREY HORNE.
