Being not so fond of THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER's previous recordings, I shall definitely say that "Everblack" is probably their best release to date. It is actually melodic Death Metal at its finest and it doesn't give you the impression that that is it actually American at all as it sounds rather Finnish, something more like the monsters of the genre CHILDREN OF BODOM. The album is more melodic and rhythm based than anything they've ever done. This is absolutely what we get when a stunning heaviness meets the catchiest of melodies, and the most brutal vocals.

"Everblack" starts quite atmospherically with stormy rain resonances on the bombastic "In Hell Is Where She Waits For Me", and I can almost say KALMAH. Killer tight riffs, two devastating vocals styles intertwine, and a very catchy melody. Not to mention the mastery of the technique and the proficiency in the band's playing. "Goat Of Departure" will get you hooked right away while "Into The Everblack" has a subtle, barely-there symphonic touch. "Raped In Hatred By Vines Of Thorn" is as vehement and vigorous as the title suggests, in which you witness the captivating catchiness and power in the riffs as well as the awesome contrast between the high shrieked vocals and the deeper growls as it is on the whole album. The most obscene track has to be the next one, as it's obviously titled "Phantom Limb Masturbation". The sultriest guitar solo of the album can be definitely heard in this one. This is somewhat the climax of the entire release, in other words, the most verbose and powerful part is around the previous two tracks. "Control" is somewhat weaker and repetitive while "Blood Mine" is quite different that the rest and is rather more melody-driven, absolutely one of my favorites. "Every Rope A Noose" is almost Black Metal at first then you can hear one of the catchiest choruses on the album with a bit of keyboards towards the end. You would never expect how "Their Beloved Absentee" kicks off. It's actually some people chanting some hymn and then the heaviness strikes again vigorously. Here you can almost hear KREATOR as it's somewhat Thrashy as well. The symphonic undertone comes back again on "Map Of Scars" retrieving some of the atmosphere with which the album started. The guitars are more playful and here comes another alluring chorus.

Hats down to THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER's this time. "Everblack" is the first album to impress me that much of their entire discography. So, for melodic death Metalheads fans, this is absolutely a must-get album that will get you headbanging and hooked for at least a while.
