The 69 Eyes - X album cover

THE 69 EYES have definitely changed over the years, and it's a good thing. Their latest album, "X", is a more grown up Goth Metal album, less Twilight-ish than previous releases. Their first single from "X", "Red", is quite catchy, and really sticks with you. This is good. "Love Runs Away" and "Tonight" are very "Cult" like (as in the band) with "Black" and "I Love The Darkness In You" really showing their Goth colors (TYPE O NEGATIVE, anyone?) But, then we hit a wall.

As the album progresses, I started losing interest. It gets repetitive. "I Know What You Did Last Summer" is really, damn near, 4 minutes of "If You Love Me The Morning After", which gets old... the finale song, "When Love Comes To An End", is almost upbeat (well, it is Goth Metal..), but still last the enthusiasm of the first tracks. Look, they have been doing this since 1998. Everyone has one album where you listen, and think, wait. What? I got to give it 7 outta 10. Until next time, stay well, and live free. Cheers!!
