Metal Blade Records: Leaning heavily on the decadence and brilliance of 70's rock icons like Cheap Trick, The New York Dolls, and Kiss, and in the same vein as the new school era of rock like Brides Of Destruction, The Darkness, Velvet Revolver and The Vines,  If It Ain't Broke, Break It!  is a high octane, stripped down recording that pays homage to the power of ROCK!. I couldn't place it as that good...
Starwood feature ex-Lizzy Borden members Lizzy and Joey Scott. The band took their name from the now defunct 70's rock club in Hollywood, Starwood, where rock, metal, pop, punk and everything in-between found a home to be heard during that era. Yet, from the above, if you expect 80s US Metal from this quartet then check another review. Starwood definitely lay on the pure Hard Rock 'n' roll side of music, strongly bringing to my mind - though I'm not familiar with this sound - today's aura of The Darkness or Velvet Revolver, yet in the spirit of the 70's pioneers Kiss and Cheap Trick.
Fuzzy guitar works, a street catchy rhythm section under a slight boose, plus dirty-melodic-meaningful vocals by Mr. Lizzy, in a different approach than his familiar high pitched voice in the Lizzy Borden discography - omit 2000's  Deal With The Devil , the only album that may have something to do with Starwood. Tracks such as Won't Back Down, Subculture and All My Girlfriends Have Boyfriends come across as if they came from the Cheap Trick or Kiss discography. The production is fresh and modern, yet filthy and raw enough to refer to the 70s/80s mainstream albums of Hard Rock 'n' Roll.
Well... no Metal 'till now...
For those who recognized Lizzy and expected something similar (me, too...) to his band's legendary recordings, no satisfaction but still no worries... Starwood is another band that features members previously performing Heavy Metal Music but now having the need to go back to the roots. OK for me, hope it's OK for them too...
