SOUND OF MEMORIES is a Melodic Death Metal band from Paris, France. Formed in 2013, the band began their discography with their first EP, "Living Circles", in the same year. Following this release, the band would later release their first full-length album "To Deliverance" in 2015 and it is this album that we shall be reviewing.

The album starts off with a track called "Non Compos Mentis", which is a really classy way to open up with; it has a nice feel to it and I like the use of piano, violins and cellos in this track, they work really well and it manages to create tension and leaves you wondering what s next. While it does sound like a starter to a FLESHGOD APOCALYPSE album, it's still great nonetheless.

The album then gives us what the opening song was building up to with "Momentum", and it was worth the wait, as we are given the first taster of what this band has to offer and it's a tasty appetizer. The song has elements of HYPOCRISY and AMON AMARTH in it and nothing feels rushed; it has a great mix of fast riffs and drum beats and it has moments when all but the bass would stop which reminded me a lot of early CARCASS. The song takes a moment to slow down at the halfway mark and just before the solo kicks in, we have this deep and booming growl, which sounds great, the song then finishes at it s original pace and leaves a good feeling behind.

Afterwards came "Confined in Struggle", which has a mixture of Death Metal growls and shouts and it's one of the catchier songs on the album; it's also one of the more casual songs. I saw this as a song to chill to but it s still very good.

So far, SOUND OF MEMORIES have been able to create very catchy tracks and manage to use the orchestral parts of the album with confidence and it feels just as satisfying as listening to the Melodic Death Metal parts. All of the instruments and vocals have been wonderfully mixed and the production shows as it sounds really good.

The fifth song, "Amenaa", starts off slow with a guitar melody and the other instruments join in one by one and then the song begins to speed up and ends up being one of my favorite songs on the album. The band is able to keep it at a good pace and are able to combine riff and small solos together and it slows down again to the melody similar to what we hear at the beginning of the song and they sound just as mesmerizing and the back to the headbanging parts and I ended up feeling great, but hungry for more.

As the album progresses, we continue to get a lot of similarities between songs, but it doesn't affect the albums quality and keeps me listening throughout. Each song has something special about it and it was when "From Above" started that I felt the band was at their very best on this record; the album has a good solo before going to vocals that sound very similar to Tom G Warrior's vocals in TRIPTYKON. This song is heavy and a real treat to the ears, as the mix of harsh vocals and clean backing vocals appear and as the drums begin to get faster in parts, it builds up tension to a song that is creative and daring and I think it pays off in the end as this ended up being my favorite song on the album.

SOUND OF MEMORIES - "To Deliverance" is an album that has it's crash and destruction but also has a great use of orchestral and melodies and ultimately it ended up being one of the most enjoyable albums I've had the pleasure to review; the production values are really high with some of the best drumming I've heard in a Melodic Death Metal album with guitars and bass to match. The vocals were great and every song had it s own uniqueness to it, and if you like your Death Metal with some creativity, I think you'll like this album indeed.<
