This is the second effort of a not-so-new band, [SOON]. They may have only two albums released, but they are active since 2000. In this recording, we are dealing with nine songs (plus one bonus track titled All I Wanted), that combine melodic and hard riffing, with the melodic, clear voice of Eric.
[SOON] was formed after the turn of the millennium in Hamburg, Germany. During the years, [SOON] developed their sound, a mixture of hard and melodic riffs, that brings in your mind bands like Paradise Lost, Anathema, Seigmen and sometimes Depeche Mode, but not at the level the bands previous mentioned are. Debut album End Isolation, was released in 2006 and received positive feedback from the press. One year later [SOON] new release Without A Trace,is at the music stores shelves.
[SOON]'s new album follows the path that End Isolation started. The album first song is Grown Apart. The intro of the song, has a gothic tone, but as the song reveals itself to the listener, it starts to sound more rock-ish. a nice, catchy song to get the attention for the rest of the album. The rest songs of the album are alternate from slow to more fast ones. As I was listening to the album, the more I was thinking that the aesthetics of the album is close to Seigmen's older recordings. The album catches the feeling of today's era, with compositions that the fans of atmospheric rock music, as the band refers to their music.
A nice album, with some nice ideas and choruses that sticks to your brain, in songs like A Step Forward, Grown Apart, Without A Trace and All I Wanted. Not a release that will change the scene's map, but an album enough interesting to listen to, with some really good moments that the fans of atmospheric and gothic-rock scene will appreciate.
