Condition Black
Skyliner
The USA Metal scene is really different from what you might expect. It's because the North American musicians have a different insight in music that you can see clearly between two guitarists' style: Tony Iommi and Randy Rhoads. The first one prefers to use slow and consistent guitar playing on riffs, and the second prefers to use a more worked and melodic style. Both are excellent, but different. This difference is the same from the Heavy/Power Metal played by the trio SKYLINER, from Florida (USA). Listen to "Condition Black" and you'll get what I mean.
Their technique is not so far from those used by the European bands from the same genre, but the technical level is not as high. Their work sounds a bit heavier, with great doses of weight from traditional Heavy Metal. Obviously, their technique can make us think of a dose of Progressive Metal as well. They show a very good work in this way, following the same style from FATES WARNING, but heavier and with a personality pulsing in each song. The sound quality is not as good as they deserve. It's not bad and dirty, that's not what I mean. But is rawer than the needed, what make their songs sound heavier and aggressive, but the tunes could have done in a more careful way. The vocals, sometimes, are not compatible with their musical work as well. But it's just a matter of more practice, nothing as bad as my words could seem.
The heavy work heard on "Condition Black", the fine melodies on the guitars and backing vocals on "Too Many Voices" (here the vocals are really good, the reason I personally believe that some practice can fit them in a better way), the fine guitar riffs on "No World Order" (and even some extreme vocals and drumming can be heard on this song in many moments), the heavy melodies on guitars and bass guitar of "Starseeker (The Mystery of God)" (where the vocals shows again on the parts with no guitars how they must evolve a bit more), the mix of heavy melodies and extreme parts of "As Above, So Below (Those Who from Heaven to Earth Came)", the very good drumming of "The Morbid Architect (That Prison of Veils)" (again, the mixing between extreme vocals and aggressive melodic lines works almost perfectly), and the bonus track "Vendetta" can be pointed as their best moments.
Correcting the vocals in the parts where they need, some rehearsals and shows to polish their musical features, and they'll be at the right point to explode.
They are a very, very good band, indeed.
