Architects of Evil
Saboter
The trend of Old School Metal genres are becoming eroded (what was already expected, because these ways are old), and the lack of musical creativity is evident. The more releases that reach the stores, the more this feature is clear. But there are good works in the middle of this flood of releases, as "Architects of Evil", the second full-length of the Greek quintet SABOTER. Playing in a classic traditional Heavy Metal way with some influences from the modern school (sounding in a similar way to ICED EARTH on their "Burnt Offerings" age) and using of a good technical level, the band's work is truly good. Their sets of catchy melodies amazing, and although it lacks a personalized music (this genre was done again and again countless times before), they show a very good musical work. It is good, although nothing new at all.
The sound quality of the album isn't the best one that their musical work really deserves. It's a bit crude beyond the right point, not in a way that would damage their musical work, but still not what they deserve. But it's powerful, clear in a way that we can understand what is being played, the musical instruments bear very good tunes, and all works.
Musically, they're mature and play in a very good way. And "Architects of Evil" (excellent melodies, fine chorus and a great work from vocals), "Rose Red" (that melodic and heavy song with tempos that aren't slow or fast, and what guitars!), "Golden Owl" (a wild energy flows from it along excellent rhythmic shifts, where bass guitar and drums shows a good technical insight), and the excellent "Order of Charity". But the horror Heavy/Power Metal touch that can be felt on "Lamias Call" (a bonus track from the CD version) is really great. Once more: SABOTER plays an old Metal genre, but the way they do is really excellent. If a better sound quality and a bit more of their personality can arise, no one will hold these guys back!
