Now here's something damn cool! Retrogression delivers a mixture of modern death metal and melodic hooks / refrains that is so in as we speak. Damn it these guys could easily be on the roster of companies always looking for the latest trend. Let's see what this EP is all about. Oh one thing: guys please - the artwork is so irrelevant that made me think I was about to hear one of these mellow gothic rock acts! Next time find something closer to your music!
Retrogression was formed in 2002 at Tuusula. They released a demo in 2004 called Fain Of Heart and played several live shows. This EP in this review is their second recording attempt and according to the band is in a much heavier and complicated - I have not heard their first demo so I cannot verify this.
But what I can verify is that this EP includes some really well played songs that will bring in mind bands such as Scar Symmetry and Threat Signal (just to mention two of the most current releases of the same , pretty much, genre) with some really heavy parts equally balanced with those melodic / catchy moments.
The production is, as one can foresee, of the known Finnish standards - excellent. It seems that the bands (or the studios) over there have found the perfect element for their recording process - I can't hardly recall the last badly produced album from this country.
If the band delivers an album with ten songs like the ones included in this one they will have a huge success.
