Master Of The Universe
Palace
When the past is brought to our times, the bands must take extreme care to not sound outdated. But when you are dealing with Glam Rock/AOR, it seems that this style has the source of youth on it, because it's truly difficult to hear a band that can't be good playing it. In countries as Finland and Sweden, this style is coming back to life, and names as PALACE are really excellent. Just a little listening on "Master of the Universe" and you'll understand what I mean.
They follow the same trend from bands as BON JOVI and JOURNEY, with great amounts of musical accessibility in their songs that sometimes brings them near Pop Rock, but always done with excellent guitars, solid rhythmic session, very good vocals and hooking keyboards parts. The melodies are done to be easy to be understood and hooking to our ears. And they have personality enough to put life on a style that is extremely old. On their hands, Hard/AOR seems to gain life again. The sound quality is extremely good. They sound heavy and clean, with all instruments clear to our ears and their musical arrangements are exposed. But they got that essential bit of heavy aggressiveness that Rock bands must have, due the wise choice for the right instrumental tunes.
Their best moments: the great and grandiose keyboards arrangements on "Master of the Universe" (a very good song, where some excellent vocals and backing vocals are presented as well), the Pop scent used on the arrangements of "Cool Runnin'" (what a lovely chorus), the easy to understand and melodic "Part of Me" and "No Exit" (both with certain touch of Pop with the influence from bands as TOTO), the lovely charming chorus from "Matter in Hand", and the tender melodies that permeates "She Said It's Over". They're on the right way, and hope that "Master of the Universe" can make them big one day!
