Legends
Novareign
In the future, I believe that this 10 years period we are living now will be labeled by the history researchers of music as the one where Metal bands lacked of creative power. There are times when I truly think about this matter with a pessimistic insight. There are the need for creation, as NWOBHM, Bay Area and German Thrash Metal and all did in the past. NOVAREIGN is a good band, as we can hear on "Legends", but they must improve their efforts in making music.
It's that same fast and melodic Power Metal in that vein created by HELLOWEEN on the 80s, and some influences from DRAGONFORCE can be heard here and there as well. But sometimes they sound in the same way of dozens and dozens of others ones that took Metal scene by assault in the end of the 90s. No, they aren't bad at all, but they are just another one in the middle of many others, and they need to improve a bit more, to become different from the others. This will take them to another level and spare the band's life in the middle of this flood.
The production of "Legends" is not a problem at all. The sound quality of the album is good, showing all the band's musical arrangements. The amounts of musical weight, aggressiveness and sound clarity are well balanced, so there aren't difficulties on our understanding of the album.
The fast tempos and guitars of "Call on the Storm", the long and filled with very good rhythmic changes "Mace of a Fist" (where bass guitar and drums shows a fine technical work), the fine melodies heard on "Heavy Heart", the excellent arrangements of "Skyline" (please, the vocalist has fine normal tunes, then leave these high pitched screams aside), and the solid work of the instruments heard on "Black as the Dead of Night" and "Legends" is good proof of a band that has a great potential, and maybe a fine producer can polish their music.
Not bad, but NOVAREIGN still has a way to go.
