Mortalicum - Eyes Of The Demon album cover

"Eyes Of The Demon" is the latest effort released via Metal On Metal Records, is the new album of the Swedish Hard/Heavy/Doom Metal band MORTALICUM. What we got here? Their great guitar riffs surely influenced by the likes of BLACK SABBATH, melodic vocals, remembering Ian Gillan and an awesome drum and bass work. I feel like I'm on the 70's!

The first track "King Of The Sun" starts with a powerful guitar riff and a great vocal melody. Sounding like a TROUBLE (the Doom Metal band) meets DEEP PURPLE. A great opening! The title-track "Eyes Of The Demon" would easily been on a Sabbath album, on Tony Martin era. Again, with great and groovy guitar riffs and solos, catchy bass-line and vocals. The same on "Iron Star", another song with Geezer Buttler influences."Mars" is an instrumental interlude between "Beneath The Oak" and "Lost Art Of Living". A beautiful acoustic guitar melody, breaking the heavy and crushing sound and taking the listener to another atmosphere. Such a good track!

There are no fillers on this album. All the songs should be on it. It's not sickening, quite the opposite, it's very funny. You can easily imagine how the songs should sound live, with the crowd singing the chorus and headbanging all the time."Onward In Time" makes me remember another unusual Metal Band called TOURNIQUET (on "Where Moth And Rust Destroy" album), at least at the intro. Well, they have great influences from different styles of music, just like MORTALICUM. And this is so good! I think the more, better, if you are good in it. And they are! As long as I'm listening to these songs, I feel like I'm on another age, another place. I have never felt so glad on a release like this in years .Even if you're not on Doom Metal fan!
