"Alone" is MONKEY RANCH's first studio album. MONKEY RANCH cites themselves as an Alternative Rock; Hard-Rock, Post–Grunge band on their Facebook page, with stated influences being TOOL and NIRVANA. I was ready to sit back and blown away. "Butcher" opens the album. It's a real head bumping track. It'd be a great choice for a road trip. The guitar has a bright tone with a lovely distorted fuzz over the top, this shows very well in the solo and despite the title giving a disturbing aurora to the track overall it was quite a happy tune with clear grunge influences. "Without Chains" the intro to this song really reminded me of "Sweet Child 'O Mine." I think it was more the way it was played rather than the actual sound. Besides this fact it was a very interesting piece of art. The singer has a beautiful clean voice which is ever-present on this track the drum keeps the beat and is brilliantly paired with a deep bass tone. Overall it's another great song.
"Danny Boy" the pipes are not calling but the amp is pumping, pumping out a classic rock riff straight into our ears. I really like the way this band has fused different genres together to make unique song, utilizing each of the member's talents to the best of their ability. Not only does it sound good but it's technically amazing two. "Unhappy Stories" has a mellow opening which leads into a dulled ensemble with tender vocals lives up to the titles statement. The song lifts its self-up towards the chorus only to drop down into the quietness of its former self in the verse; a nod to their grunge influences. "Dance Of The Witch" genre jumps into a kind of country metal hybrid. It is easily the most memorable hook line on the album. Its delivery is well timed and sharp. This is far from a bad song however it did not suit my particular music taste. I'm sure many people will enjoy it. Overall this album is very original and boasts top notch guitars and vocals, I wouldn't call this a Metal album, but more of a genre compilation coupled with outstanding production. I like the way this band utilizes each other's talents they have a great guitarist so they let him solo. I'm very pleased with this album.
