Starwolf - Pt.I: The Messengers

"Starwolf - Pt.I: The Messengers", obviously a science-fiction / space-themed album that will be followed by a sequel in the future, is the 5th album by German Heavy Metal quintet MESSENGER, a band that is fairly good yet has nothing outstanding to offer, especially not with this album.
The band's image immediately hints at the sound of the band, giving the impression it's an album coming from the 80's and not released in 2013. It might look rather cheesy and old-fashioned at some point. MESSENGER's style goes immediately under category of downright old school German Heavy / Power Metal, fusing together the sounds of those who pioneered the genre, ranging from HELLOWEEN, GAMMA RAY and MANOWAR to VIRGIN STEELE and even IRON MAIDEN. The material on this album is quite solid and not short of catchy riffs and choruses. It actually has nothing bad about it per se. However, the long running time of the album only contributed to its tediousness.
Well, simply put, it's the kind of album that only die-hard fans of the genre can really get into. Otherwise, it has absolutely nothing original or special about it that might appeal to others.
