Even though it is the first time I hear about this band (isn't the name a bit common?) I have a strong feeling that it is going to be something between Thrash and Death Metal. Basically, judging from what I found out while searching for information about the band (not that I found many things) I must be right. To tell you the truth, it seems I am 50% right.

The band was formed in 2001 in Saltsjo-Boo, Sweden. I still haven't figured out what the fuck this band released before this album since one site mentions two demos in 2005, another three demos in 2002, 2003 and 2004 and their official site as well as their Myspace page are not so helpful. Anyway, the fact is that this is the band's debut album that is issued through Last Entertainment Productions.

 So, as I said before, my feeling was 50% right. MACHINERY is an almost classic example of what Sweden usually produces, Death and Thrash Metal. I say almost because MACHINERY do not emphasize on the classic Swedish melodies and the brutal vocals, but they tend to concentrate on aggression and a different style of melody. Their melodic parts (as well as some of their more aggressive) resemble to the high and mighty NEVERMORE and STRAPPING YOUNG LAD. The band's Power/Thrash Metal style seems pretty interesting and since it is MACHINERY's debut full-length release I expect to see more from this band in the near future. What annoyed me a bit was the singer's attempt to sound like Devin Townsend. I don't know if he is doing this on purpose, but there are moments when this is more than obvious. The production is not the best this kind of music could have but it is definitely more than decent. Even though the band still hasn't managed to find 100% its personal sound and sometimes sounds similar to the above-mentioned bands, there are some ideas that show the band's ability to create something much better. They have the talent, the technical abilities and - as it seems from what they decided to play - the balls to create some great.

He overall result cannot be less than interesting and I can say that Degeneration is an album that can comfortably beat the shit out of many bands out there. Let's see if this band hides any pleasant surprises for the near future. Until then...
