LIVE BURIAL, Hailing from Newcastle upon Tyne, England herby present the hording masses with this their debut album the aptly titled "Forced Back To Life" which comes out on the Dunkelheit Produktionen label and that offers pure, unadulterated Old School and in your face Death Metal with no compromises, the Eight track affair starting epic and ominous with some oriental influence on the guitars and a steady kick drum beat that brings to mind someone knocking on the lid of a coffin from the inside trying to get out, starts off the opening intro track "Scream from the Morgue" a title that perfectly encapsulated the title of the song which then transitions seamlessly into the first official song "Forced Back To Life." Straight away you notice the raw yet full sound of the guitars, in fact I really like the production here, real old school classic Death Metal, no holds barred and straight into your face. Killer opening song which makes you want to go berserk in the nearest mosh pit. Third track "Age of Oblivion" is similar to the previous track but a bit faster, the band ratcheting up the speed while at the same time the rhythm section produces a grinding, grooving and rumbling underlying base riff that kicks you square in the kisser, no idea how they managed to achieve that rhythm but it just sounds phenomenal. The song ends with an Adrian Smith of IRON MAIDEN fame style sounding solo and an effectively used bass outro.
"Sleep Paralysis" is a more mid-tempo track with a groove that reminds me very much of SLAYER in their "Abyss/South Of Heaven" phase. The song has many different rhythm sections that still manages to form a coherent whole, as the song progresses it speeds up this time sounding more like a mix of UNLEASHED and the recently reactivated GOD DETHRONED with a touch of ASPHYX thrown in. This and No other way is what pure, raw, unadulterated Death Metal should sound like which brings us to track number seven, the appropriately titled "Hung Above The Meat Grinder," which is perhaps my favourite song on this album with its mix of Death and a touch of Doom and Grindcore elements in the song, the main riff is rather sludgy with a grinding feel with only the drums making the song appear faster, around half way through the song moves seamlessly into another just brilliant riff, with a thrash groove and well laced breaks and vocals that remind the listener of the late great Chuck Schuldiner.
"Beyond Death" kicks off song number five with a slow, brooding introduction that quickly changes gear into a faster paced riff garnered with a pounding drum beat that then goes back into a slower but no less effective section, the rhythm interrupted seamlessly with well-placed Bass breaks and an extremely pissed off and menacing sounding Jamie Brown on vocals, the guitars going into a very Kerry King inspired solo that also closes the song. The remaining two tracks are just as good, if not better than the aforementioned songs and should without a shadow of a doubt appeal to old school maniacs who like their Death Metal raw und uncompromising. In fact this whole band is on fire and with this being only their first album, have the potential to go far, with the musicianship on offer being outstanding and the music brutal.
