When THEATER OF TRAGEDY, a 1990's brought the concept "The Beauty And The Beast" onto the Heavy Metal scene, there were a lot of bands making the same kinds of music. This is how the Symphonic Metal movement was created. Symphonic Metal is based on this idea: having a beautiful, in the great musical parts of the band that are quiet melodic, an usually have a girl singing by using lyrical tone emphasizing something about beauty, and the male vocals create a harsh contrast in the most of cases. by the guitarist. Bands like NIGHTWISH, AFTER FOREVER, and LEAVES EYES, are good examples of bands that joined this movement. This formula is used here by the Spanish-basd band called LAST DAYS OF EDEN. They're releasing their first album called "Ride The World" through Pride & Joy Music.

The artwork is the cliché ito the style: frozen nature with wolves and a beautiful woman in it. Something with a dark atmosphere, and at the same time something that is very beautiful.

The sound is very similar to that of some of the famous bands that I wrote about above, but the gaps here are the bagpipes. This instrument is very usual in Folk Metal, and now they're putting it here in LAST DAYS OF EDEN. Other cool elements are at play here as well, such as Lady Ani using the lyric tones in the song that remembers me a lot of Anette Olzon's era in NIGHTWISH. The instrumentals are laiden with symphonic keyboard lines that brings an orchestra to you. The guitars are clean and, at the same time, something that gives the listener enough weight to keep a dark atmosphere alive throughout the songs. The two first songs are very catchy and especially in "Queen Of The North", which shows you a great song with bagpipes as highlight.

The third track titled "Bring Me The Night" has heavy guitar introductions which are passing to incredible keyboard lines with choral elements, and ending with the chorus by the beautiful Ani's voice. The fourth track, "The Last Stand", could be fit perfectly in an "Imaginaerium" album from the Finnish band NIGHTWISH with the great similarity easy to hear in it all. Finally, in the title track, "Ride The World" you can listen to Dani G. singing. Different than the others bands, he doesn't use harsh vocals and it impressed me.

The album keeps with the same formula. Is it bad? For me, not. While I'm writing here, I'm listening for the third time, and enjoying more than before. With an excellent intro called "The Spell" it breaks a little bit the happy atmosphere, and starts again with "The Piper's Call", and this time it is kept until the last song "Into The Deepest of My Mind".

LAST DAYS OF EDEN is a great surprise in a lot of ways that make other all the same song bands in Symphonic
Metal sound outdated. If you are amazed like me, support the band and buy "Ride The World", because they're deserving of it.<
