Krv - Krv album cover

When dealing with Black Metal in France, the same thing must be stated: as an echo of what was happening in many countries of Europe during the beginning of the 90's, many underground bands started a massive roar, French Black Metal appeared under the flag of LLN (Les Légions Noires, or The Black Legions), with  few being out of it. So the bands of the genre that appear on France are heirs of LLN's legacy, bands as KRV, who comes with the band's first release "Krv".

Massive and brutal in many moments, but bearing many funereal and charming parts (where somber melodies arise from the guitar arrangements), this contrast permeates the album, creating a form of music that seduces the listeners. Of course that this same model was used many times before, but in the hands of this duet, things gain life and aggressiveness. It's truly good, indeed.

The album was recorded by Louis Lambert, and had the mixing and mastering done by the hands of Nicolas Tarridec. There's a somber and morbid feeling due the crude approach of the band's music, but never obliterating the need for some clear sense, what make things understandable for the listeners. It's a fine work, indeed, but can be better in the band's future releases.

There are seven pieces of funereal art in form of extreme darkened music. But the contrasts described above reign on songs as the charming "Motherless Abyss", on the deep and melancholic melodic lines of "Forlorn" (very good singing), the brutal and fast approach used on "Hécatombe" (very good guitar riffs, and where the invited musician Pablo Daninos guides the guitar noises), and the oppressive darkened weight of "Autarcie Spirituelle" (very good bass guitar and drums presence, and the drums of all songs were recorded by the guest Renaud Lemaitre) are the finest moments of the album.

KRV still have ways to go, but the seed of their very good was heard with "Krv". So let's hope to see what future will bring for them.
